Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent disruptive editing; requesting ECP since it is a contentious topic. Ekdalian (talk) 07:07, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protected for a period of six months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Will log at CTOPS. Daniel Case (talk) 17:40, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Reason: See Tony Hawk's Pro Skater article request above. TheDeviantPro (talk) 07:32, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protected for a period of two days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. If this recurs report it again and we'll start escalating the protection periods. BusterD (talk) 11:08, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- Automated comment: @BusterD: One or more pages in this request have not been protected.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 11:31, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Reason: Repeated insertion of poorly-sourced content. Borgenland (talk) 13:02, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Question: This has the appearance of a content dispute with one new contributor. Is there some reason you don't have a thread on talk discussing the disagreement(s)? BusterD (talk) 11:14, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- In my judgement, I have reason to suspect given their recent behavior that suggests unencyclopedic writing, linkspam and soapbox. Borgenland (talk) 11:24, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- And apparently it’s not the first time someone has raised this issue on their talk. Borgenland (talk) 11:25, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- Anyway, I have added a few maintenance tags because there are preexisting issues there that have been exacerbated by user in question. Also, I don't know but they may be trolling users involved in editing the article with a targeted barrage of messages on their talk pages. Borgenland (talk) 14:22, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – vandalism. 36.78.197.219 (talk) 16:59, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – vandalism. 36.78.197.219 (talk) 17:04, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Reason: When you click on the "many pages" link (in the high-risk notice box) you see more than 200,000 transclusions. The bot hasn't updated as of this writing. This page is "high risk" and should be template-editor protected. Thank you very much! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 22:41, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
For example, at Template:Taxonomy/Hexapoda, for which Allotriocarida is the parent taxon, the protection edit summary reads "Changed protection level of Template:Taxonomy/Hexapoda: Highly visible template: Over 5000 tranclusions ([Edit=Allow only template editors and admins] (indefinite) [Move=Allow only template editors and admins] (indefinite))" P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 23:41, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Update: the bot has updated the transclusions to 214,000. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 05:33, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Reason: High level of IP vandalism. There is an ongoing edit war that violates Wikipedia's guidelines. User Ttam9392 keeps over linking, undos every time when I fix the page. Alextigers (talk) 23:46, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- Automated comment: @Alextigers: This request cannot be parsed. Please ensure it follows formatting consistent with the current or previous methods of submission.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 23:52, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Daniel (talk) 11:27, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MdeFdelaS – this is the latest in a sixteen-year-old sockpuppet investigation. Dawnseeker2000 03:26, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- My testicles are going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Indefinite create protection: Offensive name – Long-term abuse (Fuerdai vandal). Aspening (talk) 03:42, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Note: Leaving it available makes it easier to detect this LTA. I’m tempted to leave it unprotected, though I’ll understand if another admin differs. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 03:53, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

User(s) blocked. Daniel (talk) 17:11, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Repeated vandalism (particularly changing "oppose" to "support"), and adding false information. GN22 (talk) 16:30, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. High profile article like this will have lots of eyes, and there really isn't that much editing relative to its high profile. Daniel (talk) 17:12, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Reason: Page has been protected for about 15 years as of 2025, and there hasn't been much vandalism if at all since. Given the success of downgrading the page protection of shark recently, I think we could try pending changes for some time. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 13:53, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Reason: Should redirect to Dax Flame as it is the subject's name on YouTube. Sahaib (talk) 14:36, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
"Israeli soldiers have summarily executed Palestinian civilians, often in front of their families." This is one citation that leads to another citation (why not list the original reference?) where it describes a single alleged incident that has been disputed. The original citation is careful to use the term 'alleged' and 'still under verification' and yet the wiki page does not say 'alleged' or 'accused of' - and goes on to add the word 'often', even though only one alleged incident is referenced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.230.248.39 (talk) 02:19, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
